Eighteen year olds
coming out of the foster care system and interested in continuing
their education by attending a college or trade school face
overwhelming challenges. They do not have the support of
a loving family and emotional and financial barriers can
often prevent them from pursuing their dreams of college.
In fact, due to the lack of resources many youth drop out
of high school and sadly only 11% of this population go
on to college and less than 1% graduate.
Please help us invest in the future of a young person…
Orangewood PALS members participate in the Foundation’s “Support-A-Scholar” donor program. Support-A-Scholar donors make an annual gift of $6,000 to enable a former foster youth to achieve his or her dream of a college education. Donors receive information about their students (such as their school and major, plans after college, dream job and hobbies) and updates during the year. While there is no requirement to get personally involved, the Foundation offers occasional social opportunities for donors and students to meet.
